Jared (verified owner) –
So I decided to dive into Schmoylent 100% with this sampler. I bought the canola oil and some fish oil, 2 26 oz blender bottles and a cheap-o blender (my magic bullet was not big enough without having to split it into 4 batches :( ). I decided to do schmoylent during my work week and to eat regularly on the weekends. The order for the pack I consumed was Classic, Plain, Chocolate, Vanilla, , Cinnamon, Ax Fuel, and finally people fuel.
Schmoylent Classic – Really like the texture at the beginning. Very smooth, almost milk like, though the feeling of my mouth caked in powder it left was awkward at first. The taste is good enough. Not something I’d call tasty but not unpleasant either. I felt full through most of my day, though I really got some hunger pangs about 2 hours after finishing my 2nd 26 oz serving, with the rest of it waiting for me at home. I ended up grabbing a snack, much less than I would usually get, to satiate me till I got home. All in all a decent day, with no noticeable side effects.
Schmoylent Plain – Initial test upon making it seemed positive. The next morning I had a huge headache, which could be caused by under-hydrating or proper potassium, based on what I found online, or could just be some caffeine withdrawal since I skipped my morning coffee the previous day. I found it hard to drink water when I’m drinking schmoylent all day. Maybe a separate bottle will help that. I will say when they call this “Plain” they mean it. Texture is slightly less creamy than the classic, but it also doesn’t leave that caked in chalk feeling in my mouth afterwards. The taste though… it’s literally like nothing. No distinct flavors, just the drink going down, but clearly not water. I could see using this as a base for custom flavors. If I get more I might try doing a mint flavoring or something. Seems less immediately filling than the classic, but also seems to last longer on my stomach. I’m drinking it more slowly because I’m not feeling the hunger as readily as with the classic. As the day wore on my headache got worse and the texture and lack of flavor got to me more and more. I ended up tossing about half of it and getting some real food. I hope the headache was either unrelated or will not return tomorrow. I did make sure to up my hydration for the day so here’s hoping.
Schmoylent Chocolate – A quick taste after blending showed this has a significantly improved taste over the plain. There was no headache in the morning, and with having tossed so much of the plain the previous day I was very hungry. The texture was not improved, but the flavor was much better. A little sweeter than I like but the chocolate taste made the shake easier to consume.
I could see drinking this pretty often. Was just as filling as the plain, no cravings throughout the work day, plenty of energy.
Schmoylent Vanilla – This one tasted a bit closer to the classic, but with the texture of the other two. The taste was very subtle, ending up with a chunky milk like taste/texture. The Vanilla was just as filling as the chocolate. I’m not sure if it was the lower flavor or having been on schmoylent for 4 days but I noticed the smells of food around me much more distinctly. I wasn’t hungry, but I did somewhat crave the flavors. I added some table salt to the 2nd bottle of the day, and it really improved the taste. I think I will be adding salt for the rest of the bags to help with the flavor.
Schmoylent Cinnamon – If the other two flavored varieties were subtle, this was a kick in the face. A very strong cinnamon taste hit me in the morning. That said, it wasn’t unpleasant and offset the previous two days rather samey feeling. The salt definitely helped offset my cravings. Overall I could see having the chocolate and the cinnamon around and living off those two during the week. The cinnamon fell on the Friday so I ended up drinking two on Friday and a third Sunday night. I was pretty happy resuming the drink on Sunday night, and the drink didn’t suffer from the two days in the fridge.
Ax Fuel – Back to a more subtle taste, but less grit than the schmoylents. Ax fuel has some seeds in it, which gives it a little chew, but goes down smooth with no hint of grit or chalky residue. Could see keeping a small bag of this around to break up any monotony caused by having schmoylent every day. Probably the best of what I’ve had so far in the sampler. The only down side is that it seemed less filling, so I drank more quickly. This mix was the first time I noticed the noxious gas I had read about.
People Fuel Plain – I was notified shortly after ordering my sample pack that this mix is being cancelled, which didn’t surprise me after trying it. Thick just doesn’t describe it, I was chewing on the mixture, despite following the instructions. I also appreciated that I added some cinnamon and vanilla extract, otherwise this might have been worse than the schmoylent plain. After some extra dilution, the texture improved greatly. I would say it needs an extra 1/3 to 1/2 of the water to smooth it out. This gave me the same fillled feeling like the schmoylents did.
After the sampler I have to say I am very interested to try schmoylent as a more long term diet. The time saved alone is worth it, but the improved energy and sleep as well as a better appreciation of the food I ate on the weekend seems like a great bonus.
